Description

Gold Mine Saloon: It's dark, sweaty and usually jam-packed inside this brick-and-wood building which was once a horse stable and, in the '60s, a biker bar. Jack Daniels whiskey barrels serve as tables, while two pool tables and foosball provide entertainment. One of the few clearly heterosexual dance spots in the French Quarter, the Gold Mine draws slightly left-of-center college types and 30-somethings alike, looking to drink, dance and mingle.

They claim to have won “Best Dance Club” for 10 years on a row in Gambit, it’s a lie, that’s not even a category in that magazine. It’s dirty, dark, moldy, unsanitary, and management is rude with delusions of grandeur. Not to mention, overpriced and the music sucks. You hear the same songs at least 3-4 times a night, DJ (who I’m pretty sure is the manager) sits in the DJ booth smoking cigarettes, even tho there’s supposedly a $500 fine for smoking/vaping inside, and won’t take any requests (mainly I think b/c they don’t have a laptop or iPod even, he just plays the same cd over and over). And be careful walking through the swamp of a “dance floor” on your way to the disgusting bathrooms. Oh, and definitely don’t touch the bar when ordering a drink, unless you want to get sticky, moldy slime that’s been growing for who knows how long on your hands. You can actually watch the mold grow on the gumball machines that sit empty on the bar. Have fun playing tbe arcade games, except none of them work. “The screens are being replaced”, another lie. What, for the last 10 years? lol. They tell people the have armed guards on the back and threaten people w the police when they question thier

Pros: None

Cons: Scam, overpriced, rude management, dirty, moldy, too loud, terrible music, smells like puke, standing water in floor, cover charge, racist owner, sticky/humid, worst bar in New Orleans.
