In this workshop we’ll explore imaginative, colorful, abstract landscapes with acrylic paints and mixed media collage. The traditional subject of landscape (or seascape) interpreted through this process will open avenues that encourage creativity, a personal approach, and landscape as a metaphor for inner life. Serendipity and the happy accident are encouraged as your work emerges through an intuitive and experimental approach. If you’re just beginning your painting journey or if you are a more experienced artist and want to explore new ideas, this workshop is for you.
There will be plenty of guidance with different ways to compose your landscape and approaches to working with color. Using layers, we’ll create a base of colorful hand painted tissue collage plus paint on a canvas or cradled panel. Then we’ll add various GOLDEN pastes and gels. We’ll also create 2-3 smaller works on paper. Participants will leave with plenty of extra handpainted papers for projects beyond the workshop. Though some brush work will be involved, we’ll mostly use palette knives, scrapers, and other tools to move paint, gels and pastes around resulting in rich textured surfaces. Experimentation with High Flow acrylics through pouring and other applications will enhance the expressive qualities of your work.
As a certified GOLDEN Artist Educator, I’ll offer many tips and techniques to help you make the most of your acrylic paints. Demonstrations, time to work, one-on-one help, and art examples for inspiration are all geared to help enhance and refine your art making skills and process.
