With so many news headlines dominated by issues of gender inequality it feels more important than ever to shine a light on female entrepreneurs who are thriving in their careers. So while we pour a flight of wines by rockstar female winemakers, local jewelry designer Dominique Ranieri will be in the house for a trunk show featuring her contemporary unique jewelry handcrafted in New Orleans!
Dominique found passion in metal work after taking a metalsmithing class on a whim. Originally from Chicago, she continues to hone her craft and has established her base in New Orleans. Inspired by moon cycles, female anatomy, and geometric shapes, the play between soft elements of nature and hard metal structure is ever present in Dominique’s work. Using locally sourced materials in their rawest forms, Dominique's designs carry a refreshing duality, refined technique and contemporary creativity. When she is not busy with metal work, she is using her creative hands making food or taking pictures.
Within the traditionally male-dominated landscape of wine professionals — from sommeliers to winemakers — you'll find an amazing field of females actively turning this outdated norm on its head. In an effort to highlight and support independent, entrepreneurial women, we are calling out some particularly delicious wines made by women in our flight this evening. Lucky for us there is a lot to choose from in our market like Elizabetta Foradori, J. Lassalle, Lopez di Heredia, Arianna Occhipinti, Berlucchi, Susanna Balbo, Domaine Ferret, Poe, Galarie, Donati and more (you may see this become an ongoing series...) so the lineup is TBA but expect wines from Italy, Spain, France and the US on the list!
If you'd like a little something to snack on with your wine, resident cheesemonger Casey Foote will select and present a pairing plate ($10 with flight, $15 without the flight). No standing in line for our Wednesday flights - you sit at a table, we come to you and pour tableside complete with lots of educational info on what you are drinking.
