LOUD has been working with six incredible youth for the past couple of months this semester and are excited to showcase their creative minds and energy to the community. We’ve had the privilege as LOUD staff to guide this work with not only each other but also with elders and organizers. We believe undoing oppression should be at the heart of change and our youth are ready to show you what this looks like on May 24th and may 25th.
This performance will highlight the lived- and shared- experiences queer and trans youth face in New Orleans along with critique systems of oppression that inform their lived- and shared-experiences. Since the beginning of the year, we've been focused on how to incorporate undoing oppression into our work as reminders that there is power to our stories.
Our youth are resilient; they have conviction; they are ready to move this work in the most authentic way possible. This work will include, but is not limited to, the following: white supremacy, critical race theory, internalized oppression, community, consent/negotiation, gender norms, love/dating in 2019, and capitalism.
That said, we are pleased to invite the community of New Orleans to visit these conversations with us. Please join us on the 24th and the 25th to witness why this work is meaningful to queer and trans youth of New Orleans.
We open arms to allies and queer people alike to see the product of what we mean by Active Solidarity, Undoing Oppression, Youth Leadership, and Artistic Rigor, LOUD’s core values.
