Sewing circles are gathering places for folks to meet and discuss politics. Historically, they functioned as a space to support political causes through the artistry of sewing. The Slave Rebellion Reenactment project will host a series of sewing circles and costume workshops as a way to spark conversation and community engagement around a reenactment of the largest armed rebellion of enslaved people in United States history.
This free workshop is hosted by Antenna and ricRack Inc. will focus on repurposing thrifted clothing through hand and machine sewing. Open to all skill levels, who want to help produce costumes the army of the enslaved would have worn in 1811 during the uprising. All materials will be provided, just bring yourself.
