504HealthNet, Odyssey House of LA and the New Orleans Arts Council are joining forces to create a unique training experience regarding Opioid Abuse for our community providers who can prescribe medication. In addition to being held at Ashe` Cultural Center, this training will be an opportunity for creative engagement and expression that support health and well-being of our community providers.
The opioid epidemic continues to impact our New Orleans community just last year there were a reported 208 accidental overdose deaths. We all play a role in addressing the opioid epidemic, together we can truly address this epidemic impacting our community. We are a piece to the puzzle.
The workshop will have the following learning objectives:
Create unique environment for prescribers to share stories and lessons learned of working in community health care and addressing the Opioid Epidemic
Improve community providers knowledge of about appropriate opioid prescribing, in addition to alternatives available for patients that are experiencing pain
Improve community providers knowledge about treating opioid addiction in a community health center setting, building upon their treatment protocols and workflows for chronic diseases and co-morbidities within their patient population
Improve communication skills of community providers to be inclusive and culturally appropriate in addressing opioid addiction.
