Have you ever worked on a grant proposal or a funded project that required an “evaluation” component—and thought, "What the heck does that mean?" Then this workshop is for you!
Evaluation is a process and set of tools that allows you to demonstrate accountability to funders and continuously improve your project. In many if not most RFPs, especially from federal agencies, an evaluation section is not only required in the proposal, but can count for 20% or more of the total score in the review process. This section can make the difference in being funded or not, and yet very few people have the expertise or outside support to design and communicate an evaluation approach.
In this interactive workshop, you will learn:

What evaluation is, and how it differs from “research”
Elements in the evaluation section of a grant proposal that will maximize your score
What a “logic model” is, and how it can help you plan your overall grant project
How to create a credible and feasible “evaluation plan” and carry it out

Dr. Steve Mumford, an Assistant Professor in the Political Science Department, has been designing and conducting evaluations for over a decade. He developed winning proposals and served as evaluator for grants from the National Science Foundation and the U.S. Department of Education, among others.
Participants will leave with templates and starter drafts of a logic model and an evaluation plan for a grant project of interest to them. Dr. Mumford will be available for follow-up consultation.
All faculty and staff across the university are invited to attend—whoever has a hand in grant writing or grant administration.
The room will be open for lunch and networking starting at 11:30 a.m. The workshop will begin promptly at noon. Food will be provided.
