Join the American Italian Cultural Center for a light Italian summer dinner paired with three classic Italian cocktails in celebration of Ferragosto!
Ferragosto is a public holiday celebrated annually on August 15 in Italy which coincides with the Assumption of Mary. The celebration however, pre-dates the Catholic church and actually dates back to the Emperor Augustus in 18 B.C. The name "Ferragosto" comes from the Latin “Feriae Augusti” – the festivals of Augustus. The first Feriae Augusti probably celebrated a military victory, but became a day of relaxation after planting and harvesting. Today, Ferragosto is the culmination of summer vacation. Italians travel to beaches or mountains to escape the heat of the city.
