Once misunderstood, synonymous with syrupy-sweet piña coladas and neon Hurricanes, tiki bars are on quite the comeback tour. You can spot a good tiki cocktail from across the room: elaborate garnishes, intricate mugs, and, yes, (naturally) vibrant colors are all telltale signs. Fresh fruit juices mingle with herbs, bitters, and all manner of rums to create cocktails that taste like a tropical vacation and spark endless creativity. In this hands-on mixology class, we'll explore tiki's meandering history while learning to make—and improvise—all the classics. You'll learn the essential tools and tricks for equipping your home bar so that you can mix up elaborate drinks of your own all summer long. This class is strictly 21+. IDs will be checked upon arrival.
About the Instructor
Dee Taylor was born and raised in Los Angeles, whose many cultures kindled her deep love of food and drink from a young age. She moved to New York City and began experimenting with cocktails, but eventually, like many mixologists before her, she was lured to New Orleans. After tending bar poolside on the Drifter Hotel's opening team, she took a deeper dive into the art and science of cocktails at Loa, the moody, elegant bar inside the International House Hotel. She has since made it her mission to bring craveable, innovative cocktails all across the country with Cocktails by Pop, a pop-up that was launched in 2017 and has served events from Los Angeles to New York City.
