What: A consortium of business-minded organizations led by Louisiana Lawsuit Abuse Watch and the Louisiana Coalition for Common Sense has come together to address the state’s legal climate. We invite you to join us for a FREE LUNCH to learn more about how Louisiana's legal issues are negatively impacting you.
Who: Keynote Speaker Harold Kim, U.S. Chamber of Commerce Institute for Legal Reform Chief Operating Officer, will address the economic impacts of lawsuit abuse in Louisiana and discuss opportunities to improve our litigation climate. The event will also feature a legislative panel focusing on tort reform legislation during the recent session, as well as a panel of diverse business leaders addressing the issues they face as a result of lawsuit abuse. The economic impact of coastal lawsuits will also be discussed.
Why: The economic toll of lawsuit abuse in Louisiana can be felt by everyone and is impacting Louisiana’s families and businesses. The cost of judgments, settlements and legal fees have significant financial consequences, as revealed in a series of recent national studies and reports. For the ninth consecutive year, Louisiana has been named one of the nation’s Judicial Hellholes® by the American Tort Reform Foundation. This year, Louisiana moved up three spots in the rankings from number eight to five.
