Family-style dining with enough harmless adult diversion to still fit into Fat City. A showcase of merchandise bearing a sun-glassed cow sits near the door and sets the spot's laid-back mood. A dimly lit dining room offers little fanfare; thrill-seeking guests head to the bar for video poker and libations. The front deck fills up when the restaurant is on a wait. Good steaks and seafood. Outrageous specials like the weeknight early bird dinner--a respectable eight-ounce filet, served with a side of garlic-buttery mashed potatoes for under $10--have made Crazy Johnnie's famous with Metairie diners. Other worthy bargains include Monday's red beans and rice, Tuesday's half-price bottled wine and, particularly if you dine with a group, the generous and always-available house salad. The stuffed mushroom caps and Crazy Johnnie's special coffee bookend meals perfectly.
