Mug Shots Bar & Grill

Bar

321 Laroussini St, Westwego, LA 70094

Central City

Description

Originally a church, the building resided across the canal and was moved, added on to and dubbed the Canal Bank Inn more than 80 years ago. This haunted, historic location has a colorful past. Gambling, prostitution and gun fights were common. One of the original owners, Emmett, was allegedly murdered by his wife in the ladies bathroom. She and her lover supposedly buried his body underneath the floorboards of the bar. Emmett still frequents the bar and makes his presence known by swinging open doors, turning off televisions and changing the music on the jukebox. His spirit has even been seen late at night. Each subsequent owner has put a bottle of 151 underneath the floor to pacify Emmett's spirit. Just ask our local residents who frequent the bar about their experiences with Emmett and the long history of the establishment. Now known as Mug Shots Bar & Grill, its reputation has evolved into a great place to hang out with friends. Cheap drinks and happy hour specials make this dive bar the place to be on the Westbank. Just don't stay too late, or risk running into the ghost of our unsolved murder victim.
