Promenade Fine Fabrics is a small family business in New Orleans, Louisiana. We provide our customers with the finest quality of materials, both vintage and new from all over the world, including Italy, France, Germany, Spain, Japan and Switzerland. In addition to our high fashion designer and couture fabrics, we offer vintage ribbons, appliqués, bridal fabrics and trims, buttons, and millinery supplies to name a few. We are a third generation family-run business with the goal of providing our patrons with the best customer service and expert knowledge. Herbert Halpern first opened Promenade Fine Fabrics on September 9, 1968 in New Orleans on the historic and elegant St. Charles Avenue, the oldest running streetcar line in the U.S. Herbert followed his father's footsteps, growing up on Dryades Street (now Oretha Castle Haley Boulevard), and playing outside his father's shop, Halpern Fabrics. His father, Max Halpern, opened his store in the late 1930s and was responsible for bringing couture fabric to New Orleans in the 1950s. When he had to move the store, the only lot open was on St. Charles Avenue, which at the time did not have the foot traffic and desired customer base. The move however, turned out to be a very fortuitous, as St. Charles Avenue has grown to be one of the most famous and historic streets in the city.
