About the Presentation
This is the first in a two-part series of presentations on applications of Applied Behavior Analysis to understanding and treating mental illness in persons with developmental disabilities. This first presentation focuses on anxiety disorders, psychosis, and a broader understanding of mental illnesses within applied behavior analytic models. Some evidence-based behavioral treatments for common types of psychopathology are presented. Case examples highlight considerations related to topics such as respondent conditioning, functional assessment, contingency management, stimulus equivalence, motivating operations, and generalization. The speaker argues that standard behavioral treatments for mental health conditions can at times be enhanced by analyses and treatment modifications conducted from an ABA perspective.
